No: 157, 2 June 2018, Press Release Regarding the US Veto of Draft Resolution on the Palestinians Submitted to the United Nations Security Council

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 02.06.2018

We deplore the US veto of Draft Resolution submitted to the UN Security Council by Kuwait, following the massacre that took place in Gaza on 14 May.

There is no explanation for the veto of a draft resolution which condemns the massacre against the innocent civilians who are exercising their legitimate right of peaceful protest and calls on the UN Secretary General to submit his recommendations, including the international protection mechanism, aimed at ensuring the security, protection and well-being of the Palestinians living under occupation, in the UN Security Council, the institution that is primarily in charge and responsible for protecting the international peace, stability and security.

The inefficiency of the UN Security Council in ensuring the accountability and deterrence in terms of the violence against the Palestinians has displayed that the reform of the UN is an irrecusable necessity.

Turkey will continue to be the pursuer of the Palestinian cause in all platforms primarily in the UN General Assembly.
