SPEECH BY HE FİKRET KEREM ALP ON THE
OCCASION OF THE CELEBRATION OF THE 99TH REPUBLIC DAY

Your Excellencies Ambassadors and High Commissioners,

Honorable Ministers and MPs,

Members of the diplomatic corps,

Değerli Vatandaşlarımız,

Distinguished guests,

Welcome to the celebration of the 99th Anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye. Let me first read the message of his Excellency President Erdoğan. I will then say few words in local language and conclude with my final remarks.

Sizleri en kalbi duygularımla, muhabbetle, hürmetle selamlıyorum.

Bugün, hep birlikte Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin 99’uncu kuruluş yıl dönümüne kavuşmanın gurur ve heyecanını yaşıyoruz.

Ülkemizin 81 vilayetindeki her bir insanımızın ve dünyanın dört bir köşesindeki milyonlarca vatandaşımızın 29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayramını tebrik ediyorum.

Yurt dışındaki temsilciliklerimizde bayram sevincimize ortak olan dostlarımıza da şahsım, ülkem ve milletim adına şükranlarımı sunuyorum.

Bu vesileyle bir kez daha Cumhuriyetimizin banisi Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’le birlikte İstiklal Harbimizi zaferle taçlandıran kahramanlarımızı, Büyük Millet Meclisi’nin vatanperver üyelerini rahmetle yâd ediyorum.

Bağımsızlığımız uğrunda bir gül bahçesine girercesine toprağa düşen aziz şehitlerimize Allah’tan rahmet diliyor, gazilerimizi minnetle anıyorum.

Bundan 99 yıl önce ağır bedeller ödeyerek, gerçekten çok zor şartlarda kurduğumuz Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ni “muasır medeniyetler seviyesinin de üstüne çıkarmak” için kesintisiz bir mücadele içindeyiz.

Son 20 yılda gerçekleştirdiğimiz demokrasi ve kalkınma devrimleriyle, sadece milli iradenin önündeki engelleri değil, cumhurla cumhuriyet arasında örülen kalın duvarları da ortadan kaldırdık.

Türkiye’yi, demokrasisi örnek alınan, ekonomisi göz dolduran, diplomasisi ilgiyle takip edilen, milli birlik ve kardeşliğini her türlü sabotaja rağmen en güçlü şekilde muhafaza eden bir ülke konumuna getirdik.

Bir asır önce istiklal mücadelesi mazlum halklara ilham veren Türkiye’nin,bugün de gözlerin ve kalplerin hayırlı menzili içinde olduğu bir gerçektir.

Küresel belirsizliklerin arttığı bir dönemde barışı, istikrarı ve adaleti tesise yönelik gayretlerimiz, tüm kesimler tarafından takdirle karşılanıyor.

Suriye’deki insani trajedinin sona erdirilmesinden Rusya-Ukrayna krizinin çözüme kavuşturulmasına kadar girişimci ve insani dış politikamızla çevremizde bir barış ve refah kuşağı oluşturmaya çalışıyoruz.

Milli gelirine oranla en çok insani yardım yapan ülke olarak, nerede bir mazlum, mağdur ve ihtiyaç sahibi varsa, kökenine, inancına, farklılıklarına bakmadan imdadına koşuyoruz.

Küresel ölçekte ülkemizin itibarını ve ağırlığını artırırken, içeride de yatırım ve kalkınma hamlelerimize aralıksız bir şekilde devam ediyoruz.

Karadeniz’de keşfini yaptığımız ve evlerimize taşımak için gece gündüz çalıştığımız doğalgaz, enerji kulvarında önümüzde yeni ufuklar açtı.

Savunma sanayii alanında kendi ürünlerini tasarlayan, geliştiren, üreten ve bunları ihraç eden bir kapasiteye ulaştık.

Tarımdan turizme, ulaştırmadan eğitim ve sağlığa her alanda kendimizle yarışıyor, başarı çıtamızı sürekli yukarı taşıyoruz.

Birkaç gün önce yaklaşık 6 milyon vatandaşımızın ev ve arsa ihtiyacını giderecek tarihimizin en büyük sosyal konut projesinin temelini attık.

29 Ekim’de de ülkemizin ilk yerli ve milli elektrikli otomobili olan TOGG’un banttan indirilme törenini gerçekleştiriyoruz.

Maruz kaldığımız onca haksızlığa ve engellemeye rağmen, bir satranç ustası hassasiyetiyle, 2053 ve 2071 vizyonlarımızın temelini atıyoruz.

Ülkemize kazandırdığımız eser ve hizmet altyapısı üzerinde “Türkiye Yüzyılı”nı inşa etmekte kararlıyız.

Rabbim yolumuzu, bahtımızı açık etsin diyorum.

Bu düşüncelerle 29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayramımızı bir kez daha tebrik ediyor, milletimize sağlık, huzur ve esenlik diliyorum.

Şehitlerimizin ruhları şad olsun!

“My Dear Nation…

I greet you with my most heartfelt feelings, affection, and respect.

Today, we altogether feel the pride and the enthusiasm of celebrating the 99th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Türkiye.

I congratulate the 29th October Republic Day of each and every one of our citizens in 81 provinces of our country and millions of our citizens in all corners of the world.

I also wish to express my gratitude to our friends who share our joy of celebration in our missions abroad, on behalf of myself, my country, and my nation.

On this occasion, I commemorate with gratitude once again Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, alongside our heroes who crowned our War of Independence with victory, and the patriotic members of the Grand National Assembly.

I wish the mercy of Allah upon our holy martyrs who lost their lives, as if they were stepping into a rosary for the sake of our independence, and I commemorate our veterans with gratitude.

We pursue our uninterrupted struggle to elevate the Republic of Türkiye, which we founded by paying heavy sacrifices 99 years ago under very difficult conditions, "above the level of contemporary civilizations".

Thanks to the democracy and development revolutions, which we have achieved in the last 20 years, we removed not only the obstacles raised before the national will, but also the thick walls placed between the people and the Republic.

We transformed Türkiye into a country with an exemplary democracy, an impressive economy, whose diplomacy is followed with interest, and which preserves its national unity and brotherhood in the strongest way possible, despite all attempts of sabotage.

It is a fact that Türkiye, whose struggle for independence was a beacon of inspiration to the oppressed people a century ago, remains within the range of the eye and hearts.

At a time when global uncertainties are on the rise, our efforts towards establishing peace, stability, and justice, are appreciated by all.

We strive to set up a peace and prosperity zone around us through our entrepreneurial and humanitarian foreign policy, from ending the humanitarian tragedy in Syria to finding a solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

As the country which provides the highest amount of humanitarian aid in proportion to its national income, we run to the rescue of all oppressed,
victimized, and needy persons, regardless of their origin, belief, and differences.

While we reinforce the standing and importance of our country on a global scale, we incessantly pursue investment and development efforts in our country.

Natural gas that we have discovered in the Black Sea, and for which we spend efforts night and day to bring it to our homes, has opened new avenues for us in the field of energy.

We have reached the capacity of designing, developing, producing, and exporting our own products in the field of defence industry.

We compete with ourselves in every field, from agriculture to tourism, from transport to education and health, and we constantly raise the bar higher for success.

A few days ago, we laid the foundation for the biggest social housing project of our history, which will meet the housing and land demands of approximately six million citizens.

On 29 October, we will be holding a celebration, as the first ever domestic and national electric car of our country, TOGG, will come off the production line.

Despite all the obstacles and injustices we endure, we lay the foundations of our vision for 2053 and 2071, with the precision of a chess master.

We are determined to build the "Türkiye Century" upon the infrastructure of works and services we have provided to our country.

May Allah clear our path and destiny.

With these thoughts, I would like to congratulate our 29 October Republic Day once again and wish our nation health, serenity, and well-being.

May the souls of our martyrs rest in peace!

Dear guests,

This is my last speech, as my successor has been appointed and will be replacing me soon.

This normally would be the ideal opportunity to summarize the achievements of our embassy over the past four years.

However tempting, I am not going to bother you with a list of these achievements which can not in any case fit in a speech of few minutes. Those who have witnessed already know, those who have not can go and verify on the web and social media.

So let me sum it up in two sentences.

First, I carried out my duties with genuine love and affection for this beautiful country of Uganda and its beautiful people.

Second, I carried out my duties with pride as the representative of Türkiye, the largest country in Europe both in population and territory, the only one which has never been occupied, colonized, divided or united since its establishment 99 years ago. A country that managed to remain sovereign and independent throughout its life.

In other words, I end my tenure with love and pride, and in peace.

These values can not be measured by any numbers or digits.

I would like to thank the two presidents, his Excellency President Museveni and President Erdogan, their governments and officers, and of course all my Ugandan and Turkish staff who have contributed to this success.

So let me conclude my words by inviting you to toast for the health of their excellencies, and for peace, which is the ultimate objective of any good diplomat.
