Remarks by Ambassador Fatih Ak at the inauguration ceremony of the BEKO Store in Kampala

Fatih Ak 15.08.2025
Right Honourable Rukia Isanga Nakadama, the Third Deputy Prime Minister,

Honorable General Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport,

Our distinguished host today, Mr. Agah Kafkas, former Deputy Minister of Health of Türkiye and former Turkish Parliamentarian,

And his beloved son Mr. Murat Kafkas, the Director of Kafkas Limited in Kampala,

Esteemed Executives of BEKO Global and Dr. Matress,

Dear members of the press,

Ladies and gentlemen….. good afternoon.

Today, we gather here to celebrate more than just the opening of a store — we celebrate a growing cooperation and friendship between Türkiye and Uganda.

I congratulate Mr. Kafkas, for bringing BEKO, a trusted global brand and Dr. Matress, a flourishing brand in East Africa, to Uganda. Today we celebrate the opening of their second store in the heart of Kampala, at the beautiful Arena Mall.

BEKO is not just a name on an appliance; it is a promise of quality, innovation, and reliability. For decades, BEKO has been a household name in many countries, trusted by millions of families to make everyday life easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable. And we know that when a product carries the BEKO name, it means value for money, energy efficiency, modern design and good after sale service.

And Dr. Mattress, they promise restful nights and energized mornings. Their products are made with care, designed to support your body, and built to last. By choosing Dr. Mattress, we are investing in our health, our comfort, and our happiness.

The fact that Kafkas Ltd. is opening another store in Kampala for marketing these products is a clear sign of its confidence in the Ugandan market and in the Ugandan people.

It also means that executives of Kafkas Ltd., as well as BEKO and Dr. Matress see in Uganda a vibrant, growing economy, full of families, entrepreneurs, and dreamers who deserve nothing but the best.

But beyond products, these brands’ presence is a contribution to the economy of Uganda. Every store opened means more jobs for Ugandans, more skills transferred, more choice for consumers and more tax revenue for the Government.

So today, let us celebrate these brands’ journey in Uganda. Let us welcome this new chapter at Arena Mall and let us continue to support brands like BEKO that invest in our communities, respect our values, and help make everyday living better.

Yet we demand even more from these brands and Kafkas Ltd. We invite them to consider investment for the production of these goods here in Uganda. Please rest assured that Turkish Embassy in Kampala will support you and we will put every effort to ease and fasten the bureaucratic processes with the help of relevant Ugandan Authorities.

Taking this opportunity, as His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, The President of the Republic of Uganda has been underlining on various occasions, let me remind our Ugandan friends that we need to avoid practices which discourage foreign entrepreneurs and investors. Instead, with a “win win” approach, lets support them for more employment and more revenue, to bring more prosperity to our peoples.

While concluding my words, let me commend the efforts of leaders, His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for their efforts to develop the relations between our brotherly countries. Our Embassies in Kampala and Ankara opened in 2010 and 2011 respectively, which certainly help improve our bilateral relations in all fields.

BEKO and Dr. Matress…. thank you for choosing Uganda. I also commend Mr. Agah Kafkas, and Murat Kafkas for their efforts in bringing these precious brands to the disposal of Ugandan people.

Thank you.

Atatürk
